Wedding Day Photography Timeline

A rough guide

Every wedding day unfolds differently, and how you choose to capture it is completely up to you. Your schedule will depend on the moments that matter most to you, whether it’s getting ready, your ceremony, or the party afterward.

To make things easier, I’ve created a general guide to help with planning. Of course, travel time between locations needs to be factored in separately to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Reception schedules tend to be more structured, with the venue coordinating key moments like meals, speeches, and your first dance. Their input can be a helpful part of your timeline.

Things like a first look or having a videographer may also impact your timing. The key is to tailor everything to suit your unique celebration. Hopefully, this guide will be a helpful starting point as you piece together your perfect wedding day!

The Preparation

2 Hour

Here’s a fresh and fully reimagined version with an MK-Pixels vibe:

I love to capture the quiet moments before the excitement kicks in — when you’re still in your comfy clothes, soaking in the calm before the whirlwind. There’s something magical about documenting the whole transformation, from those relaxed vibes to the moment you step into your wedding outfit.
To make the most of it, try to set aside a well-lit, clutter-free space before I arrive. Natural light works wonders, and a tidy spot lets me focus on capturing you and your crew rather than moving things around. If you want beautiful shots of your dress or suit, hang it in that room on a stunning hanger — trust me, it makes all the difference.
The time spent with your closest people before everything begins is a vibe all on its own. It’s full of laughter, nerves, and that “oh wow, this is really happening” moment when you catch your reflection fully dressed. I live for those moments — raw, real, and ready to be captured forever.

Pre-Ceremony

15 Min – 30Min (Including Video)

15 Min

Where the story begins — the quiet details before the ‘I do.

“Your aisle walk — a burst of love, laughter, and your rockstar moment!”

Ceremony

30Min -1.5 Hour

Every ceremony is different, and the timing can vary wildly — I’ve seen some wrap up in 10 minutes, while others linger for nearly two hours. The key is to soak in the moment, no matter how long it takes.
Your first kiss as a married couple? Go all in! Don’t hold back. This is your big moment — make it count, and I’ll capture it beautifully. The more natural and passionate, the better the photo.
As you walk back down the aisle, hand in hand, let the excitement sink in. You’re married! This is your rockstar moment, so embrace it. Smile, laugh, cheer — whatever feels right. These shots, with everyone celebrating around you, are always electric.
If you want to add a bit more magic, consider providing petals or confetti to your aisle-side guests. That little burst of color and movement brings your exit shots to life and makes them feel like a celebration in motion!

Big Group Photos (Ten Minutes)

The group photo is entirely your call. It can be a bit tricky to organize, especially with a large crowd eager to catch up and chat. If you’d like one, the best time to capture it is immediately after the ceremony while everyone’s still in one place.
To make it seamless, choosing a spot nearby is key — the closer, the better. Moving a big group too far can eat into your timeline, and wedding days tend to fly by faster than you think.
If you decide to skip it, that’s no problem! It gives us more time to focus on capturing those intimate, relaxed portraits. Let’s chat about what fits your day best and keep everything running smoothly.

Family Photos

Family photos are a must — you don’t want to wake up the next day thinking, “I can’t believe we missed that shot with Grandma!” But let’s be real — they can get chaotic.
Here’s how to keep it smooth:
1. Make a list of the family shots you need, with names. Keep it short and efficient.
2. Assign a helper (or two!) — someone loud and confident to round everyone up. They’ll make sure no one wanders off mid-chat and that we get through the shots quickly.
Trust me, with a solid plan and the right helpers, we’ll get those must-have photos in no time!

Your bridal party

Your bridal party — your ride-or-dies, your chaos coordinators, and the heart of your day. Let’s capture the laughter, love, and a little bit of mischief!

Let’s bring the energy and make some memories!
This is where things get real — your crew, your vibe, your celebration. Pop the champagne, share the laughs, and let the good times roll! Sure, we’ll grab the classic wedding party shot, but what I’m really after are those genuine, unfiltered moments. The inside jokes, the loud laughter, the chaos of best friends just being themselves.
Let’s capture you — your people, your story, your way. Got a wild idea? I’m all in. Let’s make this part of the day unforgettable!

Portrait
Session

Where the world fades away, and it’s just the two of you — raw, real, and timeless.

Guide for Photographers: Structuring the Portrait Session

Portrait sessions aren’t just about photos — they’re a rare chance to step away from the crowd and soak it all in with your new husband or wife. After all the hugs, cheers, and chaos, it’s your time to breathe, laugh, and just be together.
Want to head back early? Prefer to kick back with a drink and some canapés? I’m all for it. This is your day — let’s do it your way.

A typical portrait session lasts about 40-60 minutes, and it’s helpful to break down the time into segments to ensure you capture a variety of shots. Here’s a suggested breakdown:
The Walk (5 Min)
Begin with a casual walk to help the couple feel comfortable in front of the camera, capturing candid moments as they interact naturally.
Editorial Shots (15 Min + 5 Min for secondary location)
These are your styled, posed shots with a focus on elegance and creativity. Add 5 more minutes if you’re moving to a second location.
Classic Couple Poses (2 Min)
Think vintage—like old grandparents’ wedding photos. Have the couple face the camera, stay still, and keep it simple

Story Time (5 Min per location)
Capture storytelling shots that reflect the couple’s emotions and connection. If there’s more than one location, repeat this step.
Dance/Dip/Kisses (5 Min)
Include romantic movements like a dance, dip, or intimate kiss to capture their love in motion.
Leading Men/Women (5 Min)
Ask Bride/Groom to take a walk but one of them has to lead the way
Runway Bride (2-3 Min)
Let the bride and Groom have her runway moment

Sunset photo

Sunset photos are always worth considering — if the timing, location, and weather align, it’s a perfect opportunity to sneak away for a few moments and capture something truly breathtaking. These shots hit differently — warm light, quiet moments, and a bit of calm before the party kicks back in.

Alright, everyone — let’s make some noise for the newlyweds!
You’ve made it back, and hopefully had a moment to catch your breath. From here on out, I’ll blend into the background, capturing the wild dance moves, belly laughs, and all the moments you won’t want to forget. Let’s keep the energy high and the good vibes rolling! 📸

Reception

Open ended

If I spot an epic night shot during the reception, I might pull you aside for a quick moment. Maybe you’ll love the chance to step away for a breather, or maybe you’ll tell me to buzz off because your favorite song just dropped — either way, it’s all good!
What matters most is that you stay in the moment, stay true to yourselves, and have the best time. When you’re feeling it, the photos will speak for themselves. Let’s make magic happen, your way.
